The Indigenous Language Institute believes that one of the most important tools in the continued vitality of Native languages is technology. The great advantage of modern technology is that local communities, or even individual language speakers or students, can produce high-quality, interesting, and useful materials and media, in the language. Be it written, oral, video, or a combination of all of these, with the help of your home or office computer, and some expert guidance from ILI, you can create your own language materials just as easily as it would be to do so in English.
In abridging this exciting and powerful field to aboriginal communities, ILI offers two broad technology departments:
-
Creating software tools, strategies, and templates for a wide range of topics. Central to ILI’s technology approach is the development of keyboarding and Unicode font solutions for all Native languages, without which working in these languages on computers is difficult if not impossible.
