Type in Your Native Language

Languagegeek has been providing free and useful tools which bring Native languages onto computers and the internet since 2002. E-mails, web-pages, desktop publishing, etc. can now all easily be done in the Native language.

ILI in partnership with Languagegeek provides free language software for Native languages across North America. All keyboard layouts are custom programmed to suit the specific needs of each language, mapping the unique characters and characteristics of each writing system to ergonomically designed layouts.

One of the largest barriers to developing written materials in Native languages has been the lack of an easy and effective way of typing the language on computers. Many languages have diacritics and special phonetic characters which are not available on the English keyboard layout, other languages use a completely different writing system altogether.

The free Languagegeek fonts contain the letters, characters, and accent marks in use by hundreds of indigenous languages. There is no need to download and install a different font for each language, one font has them all. As these are Unicode fonts, they follow international encoding principles and are compatible with all current operating systems.
